Help & FAQ

Answers, before you need to ask.

The questions buyers, sellers, and pickup clients ask us most. For the binding terms governing any transaction, see the Bidder Agreement and Terms.

Auctions & bidding

How does proxy / maximum bidding work?
You enter the most you'd pay; the system bids on your behalf, raising your standing bid by the minimum increment as competitors come in — but only up to your ceiling. You only ever pay one increment over the next-highest bidder's max. The number shown as “Current bid” is what's needed to lead right now, not your ceiling.
What is the minimum bid increment?
Increments scale with price: $50 under $500, $100 under $5,000, and $250 at $5,000 and above. The bid form shows the minimum next bid for each lot.
What is soft-close (anti-snipe)?
A bid placed in the last two minutes before a lot closes extends the close time by two minutes (up to ten extensions per lot). It prevents last-second sniping and gives every bidder a fair chance to respond.
What is a reserve price?
A confidential minimum the lot must reach for the seller to sell. Lots marked “Reserve” on the card show whether the reserve has been met live — but the actual reserve dollar amount is never disclosed.
How are bidders qualified?
Bidding is for verified business buyers only. Sign up at /register with the bidder option enabled — we review every request before approving.
Why are other bidders shown as short codes (#A1B2)?
We publish anonymized bid activity for transparency — total bidders, total bids, and a recent feed — but every bidder is reduced to a short non-reversible tag. We never disclose bidder identity or anyone's maximum.

Wholesale reservations

How do I reserve a wholesale lot?
Browse /wholesale, open a lot, and click Reserve this lot. The lot is held for you and an invoice is issued immediately. Wholesale price is fixed and per-lot — total = unit price × quantity.
Is the reservation binding?
Reserving holds the lot for you and issues a wire invoice. See the Bidder & Buyer Agreement for the binding terms governing your purchase.
Is there a buyer's premium on wholesale?
No. Wholesale lots settle at the listed price (unit price × quantity). The buyer's premium only applies to auction lots.

Settlement & wire payment

How do I pay?
All settlement is by wire transfer. When you win an auction lot or reserve a wholesale lot, an invoice is issued in your portal under Bids or Orders.
Where do I get the wire account details?
For your protection, VIG's banking details are never posted on this site or sent by email. They're provided through a verified secure channel once your invoice is issued, and we recommend a phone call to confirm before sending funds. See Payment & wire instructions.
What is the buyer's premium on auction wins?
Auction lots carry a 15% buyer's premium on the hammer price (some lots may vary — the all-in price is shown on the lot card before you bid). The premium is your total cost-of-purchase contribution above the hammer.
What about sales tax?
Sales/use tax may apply depending on your jurisdiction and buyer status. Contact us at ks@viginc.ca to provide a resale certificate or exemption documentation before settlement.

Warranty, DOA & disputes

What is the 7-day misrepresentation warranty?
We back every lot against material misrepresentation for seven days from delivery — DOA on arrival, condition not matching the stated grade, or major specs misstated. See the Bidder Agreement for the full terms.
How do I report a DOA item?
Open a message in your portal under Messages within 7 days of delivery with the lot ID, the affected serial(s), and a short description. We'll respond with next steps.
Can I cancel or retract a bid?
Bids are binding once placed. In rare cases (clear input error caught immediately), email us at ks@viginc.ca with the lot ID; retraction is at VIG's sole discretion per the Bidder Agreement.

Pickup & data destruction

How do I request a pickup?
Use the form at /contact — you'll get an instant reference code, and our team will follow up within one business day with pickup details and a buyback quote.
How is my data destroyed?
Every device is sanitized to NIST SP 800-88 Revision 1 — wiped, shredded, or degaussed depending on media type and your election. The job closes with a serialized Certificate of Destruction downloadable from your portal.
Am I covered by a chain-of-custody record?
Yes. Every device is tracked by serial number from pickup, through sealed transport, to sanitization and disposition — viewable live in your portal.
